Our Mission The Trinidad Golf Association Board's mission is to provide high quality, affordable golf to the residents of Las Animas
County and the surrounding areas. The Board strives to keep costs to a minimum while maximizing the revenue. The
municiapl golf course does thankfully receive some subsidies from both the City of Trinidad and the Las Animas County.
Our History The Trinidad Las Animas County Municipal Golf Course is the fourth oldest golf course in the State of Colorado.
The course was built in 1915 and opened in 1918. Many consider the course one of the best nine-hole layouts in the region,
including Colorado. The course architech is unknown, but Donald Ross was working on the Broadmoor East during this period
and many believe that some of his crew and Ross himself helped design the Trinidad course. Many of the features of the
course suggest this, including the green's false fronts and crowning characteristics. Although the course is short by
today's standards, these feature give the course many difficult challenges that make the course play harder. In addition,
the trees have matured through the years and add more difficulty. The course, though challeging, is a fun course that
offers two sets of tee boxes for both men and women, giving the course a different feel from front to back tees.
You will notice many beautiful views when playing the course including Fisher's Peak, the Sangre de Cristos, Simpson's Rest,
and the Spanish Peaks.
After playing golf, you will definately want to check out the town of Trinidad and the surrounding areas. The original
Old West town was known to be a little wild and had many saloons for the coal miners, farmers, and ranchers to unwind after
a hard day's work. Many well known personalities walked the streets of Trinidad including, Marshal Bat Masterson (1882),
Doc Holiday, Kit Carson, and Billy the Kidd. The town offers many interesting museums, architecture, and great
places to grab a bite to eat.
You might also want to take a nice drive around the Scenic Highway of the Legends that winds up to Monument Lake,
North Lake, Cuchara, La Veta, Walsenburg, and then back to good old Trinidad.
